From January 27 to 31, the Machine Learning Week (ML Week 2025) took place in the town of Slavske (Lviv region), involving students from four universities:

- National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" (Department of Applied Mathematics);

- Lviv Polytechnic National University (Department of Artificial Intelligence Systems);

- National Technical University "Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute" (Departments of Computer Modeling and Data Analysis, Systems Analysis and Information-Analytical Technologies, and Cybersecurity);

- Odesa Polytechnic National University (Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Analysis).

A total of 63 students formed 21 teams, each consisting of 3 participants, with all members of a team coming from different universities.

The students were offered 8 projects from IT companies: AI House, Aurora, EPAM, Simulmedia, It-Jim, NIX, and public organizations.

The teams were assigned projects through a random draw, a method chosen by the students themselves.

For 4 days, the teams actively worked on their assigned projects, which focused primarily on data science and computer vision.

In most projects related to data science, skills in natural language processing (NLP), involving both English and Ukrainian, were crucial.

Each project had a curator (mentor), an employee from the organization providing the project. The curators assisted, consulted, and guided the teams daily throughout the 4-day project work to ensure that each team achieved the best possible results in such a short time.

In particular, Maksym Shchoholiev, a lecturer from the Department of Applied Mathematics, acted as the project curator for Simulmedia.

On the final day, January 31, the teams presented their projects, and the winners were selected. Each project had its unique appeal, and the students emphasized during their presentations that they gained valuable experience in machine learning, text data analysis, handling large volumes of data, and its commercial applications.

The winners, determined by a joint vote of the teams and a jury comprising instructors and project curators, were the following teams:

  1. Team K20, project by Aurora (including Alexandra Balitska, a student from group KM-11);

  2. Team K13, project by It-Jim (including Oleksandr Kovrizhkin, a student from group KM-31mn);

  3. Teams K9 and K10, project by NIX (including Roman Tsaruk from group KM-21mn and Mykola Bovan from group KM-21).

Additionally, each participant received incentive gifts prepared by project sponsors Aurora, AI House, and BrainStack.

The Department of Applied Mathematics was represented by the following delegation:

  • Oleg Chertov, Head of the Department, delegation leader;
  • Ivan Zhuk, Senior Lecturer of the Department;

Also, at this event, a one-and-a-half-hour seminar on the topic "Conformal Learning ― Prediction with Accuracy Guarantees" was conducted by Margarita Volodymyrivna Aleksandrova, a former graduate of the Department of Applied Mathematics at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, and currently a researcher at Amazon Luxembourg. Several teams incorporated the material on conformal learning with accuracy guarantees presented in this seminar into their projects.
