F1 Open Day Highlights
June 10, 2025 at 21:52
On June 7, the doors of our department opened to future professionals in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and mathematical modelling.
The event sparked considerable interest: we welcomed around 40 talented pupils not only from Kyiv but also from Vinnytsia, cities across Kyiv region, and other parts of Ukraine. Many came with parents and friends, bringing the total number of participants in live discussions and interactive sessions to about 60 guests.
The atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming. Participants learned about key trends in modern machine learning and mathematical modelling and saw first-hand how these tools are transforming the world. Our faculty and students showcased their work and gladly answered a wide range of questions about studying at the department, project work, student life, and career opportunities that a degree in applied mathematics can unlock.
The department expresses its sincere gratitude to every pupil and all the parents who took the time to visit us. Your curiosity, thoughtful questions, and eagerness to learn are the best motivation for us.
We extend special thanks to our talented students and faculty who not only organized the event but also generously shared their knowledge and projects. Thanks to their efforts, guests were able to immerse themselves in the world of applied mathematics through interactive demonstrations and conversations, including:
Trying out a semaphore alphabet recognition model – a vivid example of computer vision in action, where a system interprets hand signals in real time
Learning about the practical use of evolutionary optimization methods in modelling mushroom mycelium growth – a topic of one of the department’s current bachelor’s theses
Exploring the method of matched sections, developed at our department – a powerful tool in mathematical physics for solving complex applied problems
Discussing employment prospects, internships, and how to combine study with work, receiving advice from lecturers and students with hands-on experience
Listening to a clear explanation of the fundamentals of machine learning, its role in the modern world, and the opportunities it opens up
These demonstrations proved just how diverse and practice-oriented the education at our department is. We also thank the Student Council of FAM and the department’s proactive students, whose energy and dedication made this event possible.
We hope that this event helped future applicants take a confident step toward their career choice. We look forward to seeing many of you again on September 1—this time as students in our classrooms! We wish you every success in your studies and look forward to meeting again soon!
