Updating Educational Programmes: Meeting With Students

On February 12, 2024, the traditional remote meeting was held with the participation of guarantors of educational programmes, members of the working groups responsible for programme development, and active student representatives of the department. During the Zoom conference, lecturers and students discussed the need to update the bachelor's educational and professional programme Data Science and Mathematical Modelling, as well as the corresponding master's educational and professional and educational and research programmes.

The meeting was attended by:

  • Guarantor of the bachelor's programme, Associate Professor of the Applied Mathematics Department, Violeta Tretynyk;

  • Guarantor of the master's educational and professional programme, Head of the Applied Mathematics Department, Oleg Chertov;

  • Guarantor of the master's educational and scientific programme, Professor of the Applied Mathematics Department, Valerii Los;

  • Academic Secretary of the Applied Mathematics Department, Danylo Tavrov;

  • Acting Chair of the Student Council of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, bachelor's student Maksym Sokolnytskyi;

  • Bachelor's students: Bohdan Perederei, Hlib Sinelnyk, Valeriia Baranivska, and Andrii Bilych;

  • Master's students: Kirill Danylenko and Mariia Pynda.

During the meeting, participants exchanged their views on improving the structure of the educational programmes, enriching the elective components, and optimising the sequencing of specific subjects. Based on the discussion, the following changes to the programmes were agreed upon:

  • for the bachelor's educational and professional programme:

    • introduce new mandatory courses: Critical Thinking and Decision Making, Artificial Intelligence, Applications of Generative AI, Data Visualisation, Business Analysis in IT, Deep Learning Systems, and Distributed and Cloud Computing;

    • align the list of courses with the EDISON Data Science Framework and the Computing Competencies for Undergraduate Data Science Curricula recommended by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM, USA);

  • for the master's educational and scientific programme:

    • add a new mandatory course: Generative Artificial Intelligence as a key discipline for data science professionals;

    • align the list of courses with the EDISON Data Science Framework;

  • for the master's educational and professional programme:

    • add a new mandatory course: Project Management;

    • align the list of courses with the EDISON Data Science Framework.
