Over the past two weeks, through the joint efforts and enthusiasm of students from all years—both undergraduate and graduate—as well as faculty members, the Applied Mathematics Department successfully conducted a series of career guidance events. Reaching 15 schools in Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine, our representatives met with prospective applicants and students from grades 10–11.

During these visits, pupils had the opportunity to learn more about the department’s history, the broad educational opportunities we offer, and the critical relevance of the Applied Mathematics major in today’s world.

A key element of each meeting was the interactive dialogue, where our students passionately and clearly explained the vital role of machine learning and mathematical modelling in innovative fields. They shared their personal experiences and emphasized the rapidly growing demand for professionals in applied mathematics.

At the end of each session, pupils were invited to the department’s Open Day — “F1 Open Day”, which will take place on 7 June at 14:00 in Building 14 of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. This is a wonderful opportunity for future students to see firsthand the innovative projects developed by our talented students and alumni, and to discover whether applied mathematics is their true calling.

We are confident that such initiatives are extremely valuable in helping young people make informed decisions about their future careers. Moreover, they effectively dispel the widespread myth that mathematics is overly difficult and disconnected from practical use, showcasing instead its powerful potential in solving real-world problems.
