Oleg Chertov at Education for Democratic Citizenship For Ukraine
August 22, 2025 at 18:33Oleg Chertov, Professor at the Applied Mathematics Department, has been awarded an individual grant to participate in the training program Education for Democratic Citizenship For Ukraine (EDC), organized by Linnaeus University (Sweden).
The project involves European experts from the University of Murcia (Spain), Jagiellonian University (Poland), as well as Ukrainian experts: Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, the Institute of Social and Political Psychology of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, the School of Governance of the Ostroh Academy, and the Association of Political Psychologists of Ukraine.
The project focuses on strengthening democratic citizenship in Ukraine by learning about how to promote and protect the institutionalization of democratic governance, but also how to empower democratic citizens in the civil society.
The key stakeholders are:
- University faculty
- Representatives of municipal authorities of united territorial communities
- Leaders and active members of non-governmental organizations
- Employees of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine
The program is developed in the form of four courses, specifically tailored for each target group. The training program covers a total of 80 hours of study: 40 hours of intensive in-person sessions in Krakow; 40 hours of online sessions.
Prof. Oleg Chertov is currently participating in an in-person training program at Jagiellonian University, taking place from August 18 to 22, 2025.
Each participant in this training program underwent a rigorous selection process based on the quality of their proposed micro-projects. Only 15 university lecturers from across Ukraine were selected, and Prof. Oleg Chertov, from our Department, was the sole representative of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. His ambitious project, "Shaping Public and Political Opinion on the Need to Increase University Faculty Salaries", earned him a place in the program.
We wish him success in this important initiative, although, unfortunately, the program does not provide funding for project implementation.
