Data Science

Data Science is a combination of statistics, mathematics, programming, decision-making, storing data in inventive ways, the ability to look at familiar things in a different way, and the actions of cleaning, preparing, and aligning data. Simply put, it is the umbrella under which methods for extracting valuable knowledge and information from data are gathered.

Our ability to capture social and economic benefits from newly created data is limited by a lack of expertise. Working with this kind of data requires fundamentally new skills and tools. Data corpora are so large that they cannot fit on a single computer, cannot be processed using traditional databases or statistical packages, and cannot be presented using standard visualization programs. Data has become more heterogeneous, in contrast to the well-systematized data of the past. Digital text, sound and video, sensor data, and blogs tend to be chaotic, incomplete, and unstructured. Often, little is known about their origin and quality, and they need to be combined with other data to be useful. Processing user-generated data also involves complex privacy, security, and ethical issues.

Data Scientist: The Sexiest Job of the 21st Century

Hal Varian, the chief economist at Google, is known to have said, “The sexy job in the next 10 years will be statisticians. People think I’m joking, but who would’ve guessed that computer engineers would’ve been the sexy job of the 1990s?”

If “sexy” means having rare qualities that are much in demand, data scientists are already there. They are difficult and expensive to hire and, given the very competitive market for their services, difficult to retain. There simply aren’t a lot of people with their combination of scientific background and computational and analytical skills.

It takes a month to plan a trip profitably: how tripmydream solved this problem

Many of those who are only superficially familiar with the field of tourism and the sale of air tickets in particular may genuinely wonder why Data Science is here at all (a set of specific disciplines from different directions responsible for analyzing data and finding optimal solutions based on them) - you take all the available tickets (tours, hotels) and sell.
But everything, as you know, is in the details. It is Data Science that can help you make a decisive breakthrough where you seemed to have already tried everything.

Data Scientist

Here, I consider a new IT-created employment opportunity—the data scientist. First, I look at data, information, and knowledge, and current IT job classifications to provide a context for the coming changes. Then, I define big data, which has given impetus to data science. Finally, I define what data science is currently thought to be and what data scientists do.
