  • About me

    What subjects do you teach?

"Mathematical Analysis, Theory of Functions of a Complex Variable, Algebra and Geometry, Differential Equations, Machine Learning.

According to the information available on social media, you mention two hometowns - Tbilisi and Kyiv. Why?

I was born in Tbilisi. After graduating from a military school, my father was sent to the capital of Georgia. That's where my parents met. That's why I spent a significant part of my childhood in Tbilisi.

How did you end up in Kyiv?

It's simple: when I was 7 years old, my father was transferred back to Kyiv.

When did you become interested in math?

When I was still at school. At first, it was an interest in computer science and computers. Just when I was in the fifth grade, a computer lab appeared at school. And then, thanks to my teachers, I became interested in mathematics, because many aspects of computer science required knowledge of mathematics.

When did you decide to enter Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute?

In the eighth grade, I decided on a major: mathematics and computer science. At the beginning of the 11th grade, I found out that Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute has a faculty of applied mathematics that teaches in my chosen field.

What do you do besides teaching at the university?

I write articles on computer topics and study the areas of research that interest me. I have a lot of hobbies: books, F1 car racing, collecting. I also like to listen to good music and write songs.

    So you play musical instruments?

    Yes, I do.

    What kind of instruments?

Guitar, bass, keyboards. A little worse - on the drums. Everything is at the amateur level. I used to play in a band.

    When you were a student?

No, my student years were in the 90s, and they were mostly devoted to studying and working. And somehow there were no like-minded people then. I've been playing in the band for the last three to five years. Now, due to the current circumstances, it has moved into a virtual existence. Although from time to time the members think about trying to revive it.

Do you have a rule or principle that you follow in life?

There are quite a few of them. For example, to be honest, to value friendship and people who help. Besides, I believe that it is desirable to do what you like in life. So, whenever possible, I try not to do things I don't like :) Of course, it's not always possible, and sometimes you have to do things you don't want to do. However, one should try to choose both hobbies and work in such a way that one can enjoy it.

Do you like being a teacher? Why did you decide to become one?

Yes, I do like it. It happened somewhat spontaneously. At the end of my fifth year, I was offered to stay at the department as a graduate student and teacher after graduation. And then I taught the first year, taught the second year, and it started. And so it has been for more than a decade and a half. And so far, the desire to bring knowledge to the masses has not disappeared.

At the beginning of your teaching career, how did you tolerate cheating when you had just recently been a student yourself?

I struggled with cheating. Although there were difficulties because I did not know what methods students used to cheat. During my studies, I somehow did not need to use cheat sheets, because in most cases it was easier to understand the subject material and understand it. Therefore, I had to ask my colleagues about methods of combating cheating.

How did you cope with humanities subjects?

Judging by what students tell me, the requirements for humanities subjects are now significantly overstated. In our time, most of the humanities subjects were at the level of passing grades. It was enough just to show that you knew the material and were knowledgeable in the relevant field, not to miss lectures and practices, and you could pass everything.

What three books would you recommend reading?

It's hard to name exactly three, because it's not enough. Ten would not be enough. But if you insist on the number three, I will make this choice: Clifford Saimak, the Strugatsky brothers, and historical novels.

What three movies would you recommend watching?

Three again? :) With movies, as with books, everyone still has to find what they like on their own. If I were to name what comes to mind first, it would be the American movie It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. Or, let's say, the wonderful sci-fi trilogy Back to the Future. From Soviet cinema, for example, Only Old Men Go to Battle and The Place of Meeting Cannot Be Changed.

In fact, the list of titles could go on for a long time, because there have been a lot of good films released.
