- About me
What subjects do you teach?
"Optimization Methods, Operations Research, Mathematical Modeling.
Why did you choose applied mathematics?
When I entered the university, the specialty "Applied Mathematics" had just been opened. I immediately decided to apply there. I have always been interested in math. But it was boring to deal with theoretical issues. Applied mathematics, on the other hand, allows you to solve practical problems.
How did you become a teacher?
It happened by accident. At first, I was engaged in research at the department. When budget funding was cut, researchers were invited to become teachers.
Is the level of students decreasing over the years?
The level of students goes up and down. The general trend I observe is that students' independence is decreasing, and there is no motivation. Students do not want to work independently. Although some individuals remain at the top of their game.
Do you think students should be expelled?
If they don't want to study, then it is definitely worth expelling them. But if they do, it's not worth it. In my memory, all the students who wanted to study have done so successfully. Our requirements are not too strict.
Do you have any favorites among your students?
I have all my favorites. I try to treat everyone equally well and pay attention to each student.
Do you think that teaching methods are becoming outdated?
You can partially say yes. Of course, the methods are outdated, especially for a technical university. Perhaps that's why students are not interested in learning.
On the other hand, let's take classical math courses. Does student interest in them really depend on teaching methods?
So, it's hard to say that student motivation directly depends on teaching methods. Perhaps the problem is still the lack of a policy for educating young people, which leads to infantilism, irresponsibility, and a desire to get results without making any effort.
How do you take a break from students?
I don't get tired of them.
What is the most difficult part of teaching for you?
Setting up a new training course.
What do students lack?
I would teach a rhetoric course for students.
Today's students do not know how to clearly formulate their own thoughts and answers to questions.
